Brett has a passion for church planting. At the very center of his commitment to church planting are the words of Christ in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” It is in response to these words that Brett believes, “It is because of Christ’s deep commitment to the Church that we should be deeply committed to the planting of Christ-centered churches that glorify God through the proclamation of the gospel message.”
Brett was born in North Platte, Nebraska and moved to West Des Moines, Iowa when he was five and lived there through his high school years. After high school, Brett went to college at the University of Iowa. In 1996 Brett earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Iowa. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he began his professional career with National Futures Association as an auditor in the Compliance Department. In 1998 Brett met Stephanie and they were married in the summer of 1999. They have two sons, Nathan and David. In December 2002 Brett completed his divinity school studies and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Brett has served the district since November 2003. His responsibilities include implementing a systems approach to church planting that identifies emerging church planters, consulting churches with a multiplying vision, and helping lay led core groups.
Brett’s internship was at Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church. It was there that Brett’s call to ministry was affirmed. His internship included leading and teaching an Adult Bible Fellowship, writing daily devotionals for Unlocking the Bible, and providing pastoral care to the elderly, hospitalized, and shut-ins. Brett’s other ministry experiences include Stephen Ministry, Overseas mission trips to Austria and Haiti, preaching at outreach events, and leading a small group.
