Dr. R. Ivan York has his earliest roots in the South, having been born in Kentucky. His family moved to the Greater Rockford area and settled in Loves Park, Illinois while he was still a young boy. Ivan was introduced to the Evangelical Free Church through a new church plant in Loves Park and through that ministry received Christ as personal Savior at age 10. While in his early teens he sensed God's call to Christian Ministry.
Graduating from Harlem of Rockford and Kirkland, Illinois high schools, he attended Trinity College, The King's College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the State of New York, majoring in Philosophy and Pre-Theology. He is married to the former Doris Nelson of Croton-on-Hudsen, N.Y. Their three daughters are Mrs. Stephen Buchweitz (Brenda), Mrs. Scott Munsterman (Lisa), and Mrs. Steven Otten (Julie), all of Northern Illinois. The Yorks enjoy their seven grandchildren.
Dr. York is also a graduate of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and holds the following degrees: Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministries. He also attended the Institute of Holy Land Studies, Jerusalem, Israel, as a scholarship student and later became Assoc. Director of that Institute with founder Dr. G. Douglas Young, now deceased.
Ordained in the Evangelical Free Church, Dr. York has served churches in Illinois (Lyons, Canton, Wheaton) and Wisconsin (Williams Bay). He also served the Western District - California/ Nevada (EFCA) as Superintendent for nine years.
Dr. York has traveled extensively overseas as Bible Teacher and Counselor visiting more than 20 mission fields of the world. He also conducted a radio ministry for 23 years in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Ivan and Doris returned to the Midwest late in 1999 and now reside near Elburn, Illinois. From his home office he delights in serving Great Lakes District pastors and churches as Superintendent of the Northern Illinois Region.
