The Lay Leadership Commission is a new ministry to leaders in the Great Lakes District. We are committed to the pursuit of excellence among leaders. We build on a foundation of fundamental values of honesty, integrity and historic Christian principles.
"Nowhere are the demands and rewards of leadership greater than in the church," says Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Community Church. We can give you the foundations, strategies and skills necessary to lead in the 21st century. This starts with your values and spiritual formation. Then we look at strategic vision and relationships. Finally we discuss leading individuals, leading teams, and leading organizations.
The demands of leadership are certainly great. Luke quotes Jesus when he says, "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48) The rewards of leadership are also certainly great. Paul said to the Christian leaders at Ephesus, "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free." (Ephesians 6:7-8)
It is our desire to meet the needs of lay leaders and pastors in our district.
We follow the ACTS model. A leadership assessment is the starting point. This can be done either for an individual or a leadership team. The assessment can help focus your need to spiritual formation, strategic formation or skill formation. Personal coaching or leadership team consulting is offered to create a leadership development plan for the individual or leadership team. Training is started with basic spiritual formation of the leader. Then the strategic formation of the leader is developed. Finally, the leadership skill formation is built. This could be focused on leading individuals, leading teams, or leading organizations. We come alongside the leader and bring support from experienced leaders. We set up both short-term and long-term relationships. We also set up convenient communication including a combination of face-to-face meetings, telephone consultation, and regular email access to subject matter experts.
We are looking for others to join us in this endeavor. If you have a passion for Christian leadership and would be willing to help, please let us know. Send an email to: Leadership@efcn.org
We look forward to what God is doing with dedicated Christian leaders in our district!
